What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?

Scalp Micropigmentation is an advanced technique of cosmetic pigmentation where a trained practitioner uses a special equipment to inject pigment (ink) slightly beneath your scalp. The procedure replicates your natural hair follicles while adding density to thinning areas.

This procedure is cheaper than many other hair loss solutions such as hair transplants, laser hair growth therapy, products to grow hair (such as oils, creams, sprays all add up ₹₹₹ over time).

The tattoo lasts upto 5 years depending on your health, skin type, lifestyle and aftercare.

Who qualifies for SMP?

Anyone facing hair loss is a candidate for SMP.

This procedure also helps to conceal scalp scars caused by failed hair transplant or trauma to skin.

Who is NOT an ideal candidate?

Below 18 years of age
Pregnant or Nursing
Diabetic/High Blood pressure (Consult with your doctor)
Undergoing Chemotherapy (Consult with your doctor)
Viral infections (diseases)
Fillers/Botox in the procedure area within a four week period of appointment
Organ transplantation
Epilepsy
Autoimmune disorder
Eczema, Dermatitis or Psoriasis on the area to be treated
Sick with a cold or flu-like virus
Accutane/Steroids in the past 6 months
Allergic to lidocaine (numbing cream) or nickel (needle) or Ink - A patch test can be done if you are unsure.
History of Keloid Scarring
Transmittable blood diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis, STD etc.
Actively tanned or burnt in the procedure area
Blemishes, herpes, sores, rashes, blisters and moles in or around the procedure area.

What are the side effects and risks?

Redness & bruising are common side effects and will subside in 24-48 hours. Ice packs are a nice relief.

There is also a possibility of itching, light scabbing, and dry tightness. Apply aftercare ointment with an applicator to keep the tattoo protected while it heals and to soothe any discomfort such as itching or dryness.

What can I do to prepare for my appointment?

Please wash hair thoroughly with shampoo on the day of the appointment since you cannot shampoo treated area for 7-10 days. However, you can gently wash with lukewarm water without soap/shampoo after the day of procedure for the following 7-10 days.
You may dye/colour your hair three days prior to the appointment.

Is Hair Tattoo and SMP the same?

NO.
The needle used for SMP is much finer and the pigment is injected to the upper dermis whereas a permanent tattoo ink is placed deeper into the lower dermis of the skin.
The pigment used for SMP isn’t made from composite sources meaning the colours won’t separate into blues and greens over time.

Does the procedure hurt?

Pain depends on the person's pain tolerance.

If you are sensitive to pain, you may take paracetamol such as Crocin Pain Relief or Dolo 650 (NOT Ibuprofen) half hour before your appointment.

DO NOT consume alcohol, caffeine or take any blood thinners (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Niacin) 24- 48 hours before your procedure, this will make the skin sensitive and also causes excess bleeding, swelling, bruising which in turn may affect your healed results.

For women, you may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around or during your menstrual cycle.

How long is the recovery?

There is no downtime or recovery period following a treatment.

How many sessions will one need?

Depends on the level of hair loss and desired result.

When is the touch up session?

Each session is 1 week apart.

How long is each session?

Two-four hours.

How often are touch ups required?

This depends on your health, skin type, lifestyle and aftercare. If you experience fading, please book in your touch up.

I have my scalp tattooed elsewhere, can you do a touch up?

No. Every artist has their own style of tattooing, we will not be providing touch up services for other artist's work.
